Spring Forward: Resetting Your Body’s Natural Rhythms for Fertility

As the days grow longer and the sun stays out later, our bodies respond in ways that can have a profound impact on our health—including fertility. One of the most overlooked aspects of reproductive health is circadian rhythm, our internal body clock that regulates everything from sleep to hormone production.
If you’ve been feeling out of sync—tired, sluggish, or struggling with irregular cycles—your body might be asking for a reset. And spring is the perfect time to do just that!

Why Circadian Rhythms Matter for Fertility
Your fertility is directly linked to your hormones, and your hormones are regulated by light exposure and sleep cycles. Disruptions to your circadian rhythm can lead to:
Irregular ovulation
Poor egg quality
Increased stress hormones (like cortisol), which interfere with progesterone
Lowered melatonin production (which helps protect eggs from oxidative stress)

Three Ways to Optimize Your Circadian Rhythm for Fertility This Spring
Morning Sunlight Exposure – Start your day with 10-20 minutes of natural sunlight within the first hour of waking. This signals your body to regulate cortisol and melatonin properly, leading to better sleep and balanced reproductive hormones.
Dim the Lights at Night – Reduce blue light exposure from screens and overhead lights at least 90 minutes before bed. Instead, opt for warm lighting or candlelight to help your body wind down and produce the melatonin needed for deep, restorative sleep.
Prioritize Sleep Consistency – Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night, going to bed and waking up at the same time daily. This consistency supports a balanced hormonal environment that is crucial for optimal fertility.
Spring is a season of renewal—let’s use it as an opportunity to align with nature and support your body’s natural ability to thrive.
